Native Plant Prairie Pavilion

Antwerp Local School is currently creating a native plant prairie on the two-acre field located north of the school. The area will include plants native to Northwest Ohio, which will benefit the environment by attracting and supporting birds, butterflies, and pollinators. The prairie will also provide learning opportunities for Antwerp students.

When completed, the prairie will include trees and shrubbery, a pavilion, picnic tables, grass paths, and a mailbox with identification books to help visitors spot butterflies, insects, and plants. Anyone will be welcome to visit the prairie.

Community Memorial Hospital Donates CPR Supplies

Thank you to Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) for donating two CPR in-school kits, which include 10 manikins each, and 10 infant manikins to our school district. Our health teachers will use these supplies to teach CPR to all health students, as well as to coaches and teachers. CMH's sponsorship of Antwerp Local School is a result of collaboration between Mr. Josh Hoeppner, Dr. Marty Miller, the American Heart Association, and CMH. CMH will also sponsor several more initiatives later this school year in conjunction with Hoops 4 Heart and Jump Rope for Heart.

Dr. Miller attended The Education First Professional Learning Tour of Helsinki, Finland and The Hague, Netherlands June 20 – 27, 2016

The summit included 1200 students from multiple countries and 150 educational leaders from multiple countries as well.  Dr. Miller and two other superintendents from the state of Ohio were selected by the Buckeye Association of school administrators (BASA) to receive a scholarship to be a part of the professional learning tour. The above picture features Dr. Miller with Ndabe Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela.

The goal of the nine day tour was to collaborate with other educators, broaden global perspective, and gain insight into forward thinking trends in education such as the design thinking model.  An additional goal was to experience the power of students’ intellect, creativity, and passion along with strengthening our commitment toward a passion of learning.

On the left is Dr. Miller with Dr. Arun Ganahi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and on the right with Dr. Lauri Jarvilehto, founder of Angry Birds, the most downloaded game in history. Please click here to read the complete presentation Summary from Dr. Miller.
